House of Assembly (A poem)

They gather in a hallow
Belching with rotund bellies
The ringleader ensconced on the podium
Facing fellow coterie
Vilipending the destinies
Of the rest of us

Suddenly they bicker
Like the sun from the east
Their tempers rose
Like the whirl wind battles a frail tree
They brawl in belligerence

The hallowed chamber
Metamorphosed to a prize-ring
The revered maze
Used as arbalest
The honourables deteriorating
Becoming bats in the belfry

The rest of us
Gaze in agony
Ravaged by biting appetence
Yarning for crumbs from their buffet
Hoping for an effulgent tomorrow
